Saint Joseph is a difference maker

Dear Saint Joseph Medical Staff:

First off, I want to humbly say what an honor it is to serve as president of Saint Joe's. It is not lost on me what a special place this is and the critical role every single one of you plays in contributing to that reality. The culture and reputation of Saint Joe's, thanks to you and the many who came before us from whom we take the baton to carry, is a difference maker. I heard about it before I joined and I've seen it in serving as Intermountain Health’s Front Range Market president for the last year.

A little about me... Thanks to organic chemistry, I came to healthcare through a business route and have been in the industry for more than 25 years, 22 of which were with the Baylor Health Care System in Dallas/Fort Worth. I was content there and consider it home, but when I heard about the opportunity to work with Intermountain Health and serve as Front Range president, it was a time in my career that made sense to make the move. It also helped that my youngest daughter was a senior in high school and joined her big sister at the University of Texas last fall. My wife, Julie, and I are going through all kinds of life change as we empty nest and settle in the beautiful state of Colorado. We both are honored to be a part of the Saint Joe’s family and Denver community.

In my time at Baylor I was blessed to serve with great medical staff in hospitals of different shapes and sizes, including serving as the initial CEO of a new hospital in the suburbs and also in a 1,000-bed teaching hospital, Baylor University Medical Center. The common thread of working together for the greater good, whether a physician, nurse, EVS caregiver or pharmacist, is the glue to great hospitals. In addition, an unwavering commitment to quality and safety above all else served as the North Star, as I know it has for Saint Joe’s.

I commit to listening, earning your trust and working collaboratively to serve our patients and this community like we have for 150 years. Jamie Smith was a great leader with whom I enjoyed working during the last year. We have a great team here with outstanding physician leadership. I look forward to working with you to not just preserve the culture, but grow the culture while we evolve as an organization to face head on the challenges in our industry today. I can't think of a better place to do it.

I look forward to meeting those I haven't met and please email, call or stop by any time I can be of service to you.

Scott
