New Platte Valley CMO starts in March

Joel Meyer, MD, will join Platte Valley Hospital on Monday, March 4, as the new chief medical officer.

“Dr. Meyer brings with him a wealth of experience and a dedication to service that aligns perfectly with our mission to provide exceptional care to our community,” said Jaime Campbell, Platte Valley president.

Meyer's career spans 32 years of service in the Army, where he held various clinical leadership roles, faculty positions and executive leadership positions. Notably, he served as the director of Primary Care for all of Army Medicine and later as the chief medical officer of Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio, the largest and most robust medical center in the Military Health System. Most recently, he served as the regional chief medical officer with ChenMed, providing primary care to underserved seniors.

A native of Flint, Mich., Meyer earned his bachelor of science degree in Chemistry from the US Military Academy at West Point, NY. He then attended the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, MD, where he earned his doctor of medicine and was inducted into the prestigious Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. Meyer completed his residency training in Family Medicine at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Virginia and is board certified in Family Medicine. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians and the American College of Healthcare Executives.

"We are very excited to welcome Dr. Meyer to Platte Valley Hospital and the Intermountain Health family," says Toni Green-Cheatwood, DO, ACMO for Acute Care in Colorado. "His prior experiences as chief medical officer position him very well to guide our medical staff through clinical optimization and to prepare Platte Valley for value-based care. I am thrilled to have him on the Peaks medical leadership team and look forward to partnering with him to improve the quality of the care we provide and enhance the experience of caregivers and patients alike. Please join me in welcoming Dr. Meyer to Platte Valley."

Campbell also would like to thank Dr. Green-Cheatwood for serving in the interim role at PVH for the last year: “Her contributions have been significant and meaningful, and they provide an excellent launching pad for Dr. Meyer as our CMO.”

Outside of work, Meyer enjoys spending time with his three adult children, who reside in Virginia and Arizona. Currently residing in Kansas City, he also enjoys music, food and staying active.
