New physician leader announced for Peaks Region
A Message From Rob Ferguson, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Peaks Region:
I’m pleased to announce that we have selected Diane Alonso, MD, FACS, to serve as Peaks Region Associate Chief Medical Officer (ACMO). Dr. Alonso will lead the Cardiovascular, Neurosciences, Medical Specialties, and Surgical Specialties and Digestive Health service lines. She will begin her role on Monday, April 28.
Originally from Colorado, Dr. Alonso is coming back home after having served as the ACMO for Specialty Care in the Desert Region. Her work has included leading the formalization of specialty service lines, supporting the defining of specialty based quality initiatives, and development of specialty supported proactive care models.
An abdominal transplant surgeon by background, Dr. Alonso served as the program director for Abdominal Transplant Services at Intermountain Medical Center in Salt Lake City prior to her role as ACMO in the Desert Region. During her time with the transplant team, she helped lead pioneering work in the use of HCV+ livers for transplant and focused on expanded use of extended criteria donors to significantly grow transplant volumes to better serve patients with end organ failure in the Mountain West.
“I am thrilled for the opportunity to join the Peaks Region and collaborate with the many incredible physicians, APPs, nurses, leaders and operational partners that are essential in building the teams, relationships and processes that keep our patients at the center of everything we do,” Dr. Alonso said. “I look forward to the work ahead as we all continue to care for one another and drive excellence in care.”
Dr. Alonso received her medical degree from the University of California, Davis. She completed her General Surgery residency at the University of Utah, as well as an abdominal transplant fellowship at the University of Nebraska, Omaha, where she received training in liver, kidney, pancreas and intestinal transplant.
We are thrilled to bring Dr. Alonso’s extensive surgical and leadership background to serve the specialists within the Peaks Region. She is not only a talented physician with experience in advanced patient care, but she is also a leader with a natural genius to make genuine personal connections and build successful programs.
Please join me in welcoming Dr. Alonso to our Peaks Region family!
