Miner selected as SMD of ED, Trauma Service Line for Peaks

Scott Miner, MD, Emergency Services and Lutheran’s chief of staff-elect, has been selected for the role of senior medical director of the ED/Trauma service line in the Peaks Region.

As senior medical director, Miner will provide leadership, oversight and support for the development of a culture of high reliability and the measurement of care, identifying opportunities, building relationships and executing on strategies that drive performance and measured improvement of the service line.

“I'm very proud of the work we do in Emergency Medicine and Trauma within Intermountain and Peaks,” Miner said. “Working with the health system to create a structured service line for all the wonderful team members in our Emergency Departments and Trauma programs is a great opportunity to improve patient care.”

Miner will operate in a dyad leadership structure with key organizational relationships across Intermountain Health, collaboratively with all assigned region disciplines including Medical Group, peer service lines and markets, as well as Enterprise disciplines, including Clinical Programs, Clinical Shared Services, Clinical Excellence, Research, Medical Education and the clinically integrated network.

“The goal of the IMH Service Line Structure is to support and encourage best-practice sharing, continuous improvement and growth,” he said. “I hope to help lead the effort to bring our teams together to improve not only the care we provide, but the experience we have while doing so.”

“Dr. Miner will be a great addition to the Service Line leadership, and I am thrilled that he will be serving as the Peaks ED/Trauma senior medical director,” said Toni Green-Cheatwood, DO, associate chief medical officer in the Peaks Region. “Dr. Miner has been in the Denver community for many years and brings with him extensive ED and Trauma knowledge. The ability to improve the care of our patients as well as the caregiver experience will be realized under his leadership. In addition, Dr. Miner will play an integral part in advancing the partnership across the enterprise in the ED/Trauma services.”

Miner has been practicing emergency medicine for more than 20 years in the Denver-metro area. He has been an EMS medical director and is an active member of the Lutheran medical staff, having chaired the Clinical Operations Council and currently serving as the chief of staff-elect, a position he will keep.

He will, however, need to step down as medical director of the Emergency Department, a position he has held for 14 years.

“It has been an absolute joy to work as Lutheran’s ED medical director with all the truly talented and wonderful people involved in Emergency Services at Lutheran,” he said. “Thankfully, I still get a chance to continue these relationships with the EM and Trauma service line! Also, I will be clinically active and look forward to working at the bedside frequently.”

Miner earned his medical degree from Case Western Reserve in Cleveland. He trained in Emergency Medicine at Denver Health and the University of Colorado and has been practicing Emergency Medicine in Denver since 2003.
