Complete a Spanish language assessment for free at Platte Valley

Any clinician who provides care at Platte Valley and wants to communicate with non-English-speaking or limited-English-proficiency patients and visitors in their language must complete a language assessment to be considered bilingual.

The good news is that at Platte Valley, Lidia Puga, the hospital’s patient experience and language services coordinator, is able to able to offer a Spanish language assessment for free to any clinician.

“Having non-bilingual clinicians interact with LEP patients or visitors is against federal regulations and puts the patient at risk, not to mention the clinician, whose professional license can be in jeopardy,” Puga said. “At Platte Valley, I hope the staff and clinicians take advantage of this opportunity to schedule the Spanish language assessment with me for free.”

Physicians who would prefer an outside vendor, or those who want to complete the assessment for other core or rare languages, can click here for a list of languages and the cost of the assessment.

Those who opt out of the language assessment must utilize the qualified interpreter service provided by Platte Valley and used throughout Intermountain Health. More information about accessing that service and a reminder of its importance can be found here.
