WeSimplify: Turn your practice efficiency ideas into action

Is there something in your daily work taking too much time away from patient care that you believe could be improved with a new process or approach? Don’t keep those thoughts to yourself — submit them to WeSimplify.

WeSimplify is an online tool within the Continuous Improvement Portal where all Intermountain clinicians and caregivers can share and pursue ideas founded in simplification and innovation.

Jennifer Davenport, MD, Peaks Regional Executive Lead for Physician and APP Experience and Well-being, believes physicians and APPs have a wealth of important ideas that could result in more efficient practice and less frustration, including less time on their computer or doing task-based work.

“One of the key components of physician and APP well-being is addressing efficiency of practice so we can focus on what we love best -- taking care of our patients,” says Davenport, who also serves as the Associate Chief Medical Officer for Acute Care Montana Market and Chief Medical Officer for St. James Healthcare.

The well-being committee is championing WeSimplify as part of ongoing efforts to ensure members of the medical staff have the best experience and well-being possible while partnering with Intermountain Health. The initiative launched this summer and ideas are typically prioritized by benefit and effort required to implement.

A submission by a member of the medical staff is already gaining traction toward a solution. The idea centered on how to reduce the growing angst over the large amount of inbox messaging coming in from MyChart patients – especially when physicians are on PTO or out of the office.

“As a result, a Peaks workgroup was formed and is working on addressing how to best manage those inboxes to alleviate some of the extra work put on physicians,” Davenport says.

How you can submit your ideas and make your voice heard:

  • Medical staff working at care sites with access to The Landing should visit the WeSimplify page, which includes detailed instructions, here.

  • All other medical staff should email the dedicated experience email address at mdappexperience@imail.org. The Well-being Committee will prioritize and distribute ideas to the appropriate teams and workgroups.

Tips to help maximize the impact of your idea:

  • Write a thorough description of your idea and provide enough detail so those unfamiliar with the process or system can understand the problem and proposed solution.

  • Clearly communicate benefits, such as reduced time, increased quality, improved patient care, decreased errors or cost savings.

  • Work with your department head for help sharing your idea throughout the organization.
