Saint Joseph physician fights for young victims of war

By Marica Pook, MD, Saint Joseph Medical Staff Member

I am helping children at a hospital in Ukraine who have cystic fibrosis and struggle to breathe. The little Ukrainian girl in the picture is wearing a donated vest that helps her cough.

If you would like to help us help these children, please donate to our charity, Four Corners Relief. Four Corners is currently sending more medication and airway vests to Ukraine.

In addition, if you would like to send toys and games to orphans in Ukraine, please pick items from our Amazon wish list. The toys are going to children currently living in shelters and orphanages.

Thank you for your love and support for this scared and vulnerable population in the war-torn country of Ukraine.

From the Four Corners Relief website: Marica Pook-Follett, MD, is an internal medicine physician in Boulder. She began medical-relief work in Ukraine in April 2022 when Russia invaded Ukraine. She flew to Poland with 10 duffel bags filled with ICU medications and surgical tools, which were delivered to the besieged city of Kyiv. She also went to Lviv and provided first-aid kits and other humanitarian aid, and staffed a medical clinic on the Ukrainian-Polish border.

Since then, Marica and her daughter, Tatiana, have sent six more shipments of medical and humanitarian aid to Ukraine. In May 2022, Tatiana and other friends went to the Polish border town of Przemyśl and helped relocate Ukrainians fleeing the war. The mother-daughter duo is self-funded (with the help of friends and family!) and now happily runs Four Corners Relief together.
