Remembering Our Friend Amy Kreeger, NP

Amy Kreeger, NP, who served in the interventional radiology department at Good Samaritan since the hospital’s opening, passed away on Oct. 7. Her nursing career with legacy SCL Health began at St. Joe’s and spanned over four decades, encompassing several roles.

Amy was known for her megawatt smile and infectious laughter, for always going above and beyond for her patients, and for setting the standard for those around her.

We were fortunate to be able to honor Amy for her tireless dedication with two awards at Good Sam shortly before her death: Advanced Practice Professional of the Year (click here for details) and the DAISY Lifetime Achievement Award.

“On my first day at Good Samaritan Hospital, I was introduced to Amy because she is such a good person to know – for so many reasons,” shared Good Samaritan Chief of Staff Catherine Lazar, MD, during the Oct. 6 DAISY award ceremony.

“We stand in a room full of people who love and respect Amy and I know there are countless others who wanted to be here today, but they are following Amy’s example and taking care of people and patients. Amy has taught several generations of physicians and nurses how to be good clinicians and more importantly good people.”

Dr. Lazar also wrote the following about Amy in her DAISY nomination letter:

“Amy ALWAYS goes the extra mile, stops to help, stops to teach, stops to hug you and make you laugh no matter how insurmountable the day feels, and loves her work family like her own.  To those who work with her directly, she walks on water.  The patients ADORE her.  As she and I transferred all the patients out of the Good Sam ICU on the day of the Marshall fire, she kindly distracted me and gently guided me away from the window where flames could be seen very near my own house.  She cries with patients, families, and colleagues and then helps to find the light.  No task is too big or too small. She radiates joy even on the toughest of days. She participated in multiple SCL medical missions to Tanzania. She has served on all the committees. She is YaYa to the Kreeger Nation, devoted to her parents, children, and grandchildren. She is an honorary big sister, auntie, or mom to many of us on staff. She lives the mission.”

We are so grateful to Amy for her service and for the lasting impact she leaves on all of us.
