Outgoing chief expresses gratitude for physicians, hospital leaders

As his term as Platte Valley’s chief of staff ends, Angelo Dilullo, MD, reflects on his two years with the same energy, presence and humor that has flowed throughout his career as a much-loved physician and widely respected leader.

Pulse checked in with Dilullo just weeks ago for his thoughts on a position he never sought but gladly accepted.

Q: What do you feel was your biggest achievement as chief?

A: I don’t really measure it in terms of achievements; that’s not what this job is like. My role really has been putting out fires. I’m called in when something unexpected happens to advocate for physicians and make sure they’re treated fairly, while protecting patients and making decisions that stabilize and facilitate our best work. It’s an unpredictable job.

Q: Will you miss it?

A: I don’t miss things. I focus on what’s in front of me. But that said, I enjoyed the job. I liked balancing my relationships and responsibilities with physicians, the MEC and Administration. There are some really great people here, and working with them has been a pleasure.

Q: What are your impressions of the incoming chief of staff, Don Rabor, MD?

A: Oh, he’s great. Fastidious and thoughtful. Dedicated to our patients and the medical staff. He’s a strong advocate for physicians and will serve as a good representative for Platte Valley.

Q: Is there anyone you would like to acknowledge for supporting you?

A: Yes! All of the members of the MEC, for their dedication and the time they spend on so many worthy efforts. They go above and beyond. Our hospital president Jaime Campbell and COO/CNO Kurt Gensert have been wonderful partners. They are exceptional. Dr. Rabor, too, has been a great partner and I hope to return the favor during his term as his immediate-past chief.

Q: Is there any advice you’d like to share with physicians moving forward?

A: Even though our work as physicians can be stressful, difficult, overwhelming at times, I have tremendous respect for what you do. You provide massive value to our patients and the community. Remember that and be proud.
