Good Samaritan welcomes new Trauma nursing director

Good Samaritan Hospital is excited to announce Stephanie Vega, MBA, BSN, RN, CCRN-K, has started as our new Trauma nursing director! She joined our team Monday, May 20.

Vega is a clinical and collaborative leader with a commitment to high-quality care, performance improvement and data analysis. In her new role, she will work closely with our Good Samaritan nursing and physician leaders to ensure safe, compassionate, efficient and effective care for our patients. Alongside our experienced and dedicated trauma team, she will support and further develop strategic planning processes and standards of care and will collaborate with other departments to reinforce and establish best practices in delivering the highest standard of trauma care for our community.

As a registered nurse for 20 years, Vega started her career in critical care, working directly with trauma patients, serving as a nurse liaison to the trauma program at a Level I trauma center in 2004. She has years of experience working directly with Level I and II trauma teams in Colorado, most recently at UCHealth as the manager of Trauma and Burn Programs. Previously, she served as a Trauma Performance Improvement coordinator for nearly 10 years and has experience as a Colorado Trauma Site surveyor, which will offer us helpful insights as we embark on our triennial trauma center reverification and designation this fall.

“I am looking forward to collaborating with all teams that care for trauma patients at Good Samaritan Hospital,” said Stephanie. “I am eager to hit the ground running.”

Vega will report to Liz Withers, MD, MBA, GSH chief medical officer, who expressed her enthusiasm. “We are so excited to have Stephanie join us! She has a wealth of knowledge and experience at a busy trauma center, and many on the team already know and have worked with her before on various projects. We are lucky to have her and look forward to working with her!”

Vega earned her nursing degree from Arizona State University and, after practicing in Arizona and Florida, moved to Colorado in 2016. She has held various operational roles in many Colorado professional organizations, has an impressive number of valuable certifications and authorship of publications, has mastered many patient registry systems, and is an active volunteer at Project C.U.R.E.

When not in the hospital, Vega enjoys all Colorado has to offer by frequently hiking, camping and snowboarding.

Please join us in welcoming Vega to Good Samaritan. You can reach her at stephanie.vega@imail.org.
