Good Samaritan seeks new physician leader

The Good Samaritan Medical Executive Committee is recruiting for a Chair of the Department of Surgery. This position is an opportunity to participate in the local governance of the hospital’s independent medical staff and to collaborate with outstanding colleagues from across specialties. 

Please note, Good Samaritan has transitioned to a single Department of Surgery, which includes general surgery and all the surgical subspecialties. All general and subspecialty surgeons are encouraged to apply if interested.

Qualifications and responsibilities for this position include:

  • Board certification in general surgery or surgical subspecialty.

  • Initial review of credentials file for clinicians applying for initial privileges and for renewal of privileges, prior to final review, which is performed by the Credentials Committee.

  • Attendance of MEC meetings once a month, currently the second Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

  • Willingness to collaborate with the vice chair of the department in coaching and quality activities.

  • Willingness to promote compliance with the medical staff bylaws and rules through mentoring and coaching of colleagues.

  • Demonstrated clinical competence in the area of general surgery or surgical subspecialty.

  • Clear priority to promote patient safety ahead of all other concerns.

  • Ability to work with the hospital toward attaining its lawful and reasonable goals.

  • Ability to work with and motivate others to achieve the objectives of the medical staff.

  • Presentation as an active member in good standing.
