GME welcomes new OB/Gyn program director

Meredith Alston, MD, joined Saint Joseph Hospital in January as the new Obstetrics & Gynecology Residency Program director. Previously she served as the OB/Gyn program director at UC Denver from 2012 to 2020 and as its vice chair of Obstetrics Education from 2018 to 2022.

She also currently serves as the vice chair of ACGME’s Obstetrics & Gynecology Review Committee, evaluating all existing accredited programs nationwide, as well as those seeking accreditation.

“I love teaching residents,” Alston said. “They’re apprentice-type learners, and each encounter with them is an opportunity to help them grow with instruction that’s individualized for them.”

Alston was attracted to this position because of the “fabulous existing faculty” and the community-based nature of the care provided at Saint Joseph. Having spent her career in a university setting, this position was a growth opportunity for her, as well.

“When you consider the superior quality of care provided at Saint Joseph and add to it the diversity of the patient population, the volume of patients and the variety of health plans – all in one place – you can see how Saint Joseph is the best-possible environment for medical training, and for me,” she said.

Alston is looking forward to building on the training provided and filling some gaps, such as education in pediatric and adolescent gynecology.

Alston enjoys camping, visiting national parks and watching the Broncos with her husband and 12-year-old son. Physicians can reach out to her at meredith.alston@imail.org.
