Excellence recognized

By Scott Peek, Saint Joseph President

Saint Joseph Hospital has a longstanding reputation of being one of the best hospitals in Colorado and the nation. We continually earn awards and accolades for delivering care that is safe, high-quality and provides the best possible experience for our patients. The reputation and culture of excellence that exist here are key reasons I wanted to join Intermountain Health.

Saint Joseph recently received numerous awards including being ranked by U.S. News and World Report as the #2 hospital in both Colorado and in the Denver-metro area and earning a “High Performing” rating in two Adult Specialties and 13 Conditions/Treatments in the areas of respiratory, cardiovascular, geriatric, oncology, maternity and orthopedic care.

We were also recognized for top performance by the American Heart Association Get With The Guidelines® program for care of stroke patients, the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry for Platinum Performance and HeartCARE Center designation renewal, by Newsweek as one of America’s best cardiac hospitals, and CMS for 5-star patient recommendations.

Receiving awards from third-party rating agencies is important but it is not what drives us. What drives the caregivers, physicians and leaders at Saint Joe’s is doing the right things for our patients. We have very high standards of care and conduct and we hold ourselves and each other accountable to those standards. External recognition confirms that our internal focus on doing the right things in the areas of safety, quality and patient experience is working.

And speaking of recognition, I want to express my gratitude to everyone at Saint Joe’s who helped make the move to the new Lutheran Hospital a success. On Saturday, Aug. 3, 20 ambulances safely transported 122 patients from the legacy campus to the new hospital. Behind the scenes work by countless teams and individuals has been taking place for years to ensure our colleagues at Lutheran can continue to fulfill their legacy of providing great care for the west-Denver community in their new state-of-the-art facility.

Thank you to all Saint Joseph’s Medical Staff for your role in these outstanding achievements.
