Changes to Diet Orders

As of Feb. 12, some clinical nutrition orders have changed, which impacts physician and nursing workflows.

New Diet Order Design

This change impacts adult and pediatric patients and can be found by searching for either "Adult Diet" or "Pediatric Diet". All therapeutic diet options will be found within the single age-dependent diet order. The new design features updated therapeutic diets and terminology based on the most recent evidence-based practice recommendations. You will notice that some diets have been archived, and the order now offers a greater degree of liberalization with the opportunity to build custom diets to meet a patient's specific needs. Most importantly, the new design incorporates improved safety features, particularly with safety trays and texture-modified diets.

New Oral Nutrition Supplement Order

The goal of the new supplement order is to demonstrate intervention by the dietitian. This order does not directly interface with the new meal ordering software, Computrition, which will be used across all Intermountain care sites. Your local clinical nutrition team will decide whether to include or not include the specific details of the order in the comments section of the Epic order. Providers still have the opportunity to list specific supplements and/or desired frequency in the comments section when placing the order, which is consistent with current practice.

Please note that the Peaks Region is updating its supplement ordering practices. Patients will now be able to order supplements based on their preference at all care sites and will no longer require a physician order. This is consistent with current practices in Canyons/Desert and some hospitals currently within Peaks. The supplements that align with their diet order will be listed on their patient menu. For instance, if the patient is on a Consistent Carbohydrate diet, they will have the Boost Glucose Control option available.

Nutrition Consults

Nutrition consults will now offer fast-click options for the reason for consult. You will still have the capability to provide consult specifics in the comments section.
