A month of celebration and gratitude

Dear Saint Joseph Medical Staff:

It has been an exciting month as we celebrated our nurses, caregivers, our EMS partners, Mental Health Awareness Month and more including the recent elite recognition Saint Joe’s received at the first-ever L.O.V.E. Awards ceremony that was held earlier this month in Salt Lake City.

I am pleased to announce that Saint Joseph Hospital was one of just a few hospitals awarded the Intermountain Health L.O.V.E. Performance Award. This award is given to teams, divisions and units within Intermountain whose outcomes reflect outstanding quality and safety. Saint Joe's was recognized for meeting multiple thresholds of excellence related to Intermountain's fundamentals, specifically in the areas of Quality and Caregiver Safety.

We obtained the lowest rate of OSHA-reportable injuries within Intermountain Health’s Large Hospital Cohort, which includes eight hospitals throughout the enterprise. Saint Joe’s was also at the top of our Premier Quality Cohort in the Peaks Region. This quality data is from nearly 4,000 hospitals across the country and compares several quality domains including mortality, safety, efficiency and patient-centeredness. Thank you for the vital role you play in supporting this work. We cannot do this without our outstanding medical staff!

We also learned that Intermountain is the best performing large health system in the country, according Fortune/PINC AIs 15 Top Health Systems list. The rankings are based on key performance indicators, including clinical outcomes, operational efficiency and patient experience. The full list and more information can be found here in Becker’s Hospital Review.

At the heart of all these achievements is you. These accomplishments wouldn’t be possible without a commitment by our physicians and APPs to excellence, collaboration and to providing high-quality and people-centered care.

At Saint Joe’s, striving for clinical excellence and the best experiences for our patients is important, but we also know that we need to take care of ourselves and each other. To that end, we were honored to welcome the Most Reverend Samuel J. Aquila to Saint Joe’s to provide a special blessing for us during Caregiver Appreciation Week. In his reflection at the Saint Joseph chapel, Archbishop Aquila asked the caregivers to open their hearts to the one who is the true healer and ask Him for guidance in difficult times as they care for others. As a man of deep faith, it was a meaningful tribute for me and for our caregivers as they work to help and heal our patients.

I continue to be impressed by the culture and the people who make this a special place and I am very grateful to be a part of the Saint Joe’s family.

Thank you for all you do,

Scott
