Nineteen Lutheran clinicians receive kudos!

Lutheran Medical Center often receives notes of gratitude from patients and family members, as well as words of recognition from colleagues and associates, about physicians who have provided extraordinary care and service.

Here are the compliments received for the November 2023 Pulse:

Clinician-to-clinician compliment

  • Richard “RJ” Balzen, NP, did an excellent job on Oct. 23 taking care of a critically ill patient in septic shock who was simultaneously bleeding. He quickly recognized the patient’s coagulopathy and was able to reverse this process, stabilize the patient with transfusions and rewarming, and help guide a very frightened family. — John Ferguson, MD, MPH, FCCP

Compliments received by Press Ganey surveyors and others

  • The doctors, including Tyler Aronstein, DO, were very patient with me and very kind!

  • I had a great doctor, Tyler Aronstein, DO, who took time with me to listen and ordered the right testing. I had a kidney stone that wasn't found in a prior ultrasound, and he ordered a CT. Took his time explaining the results…Overall, I’m glad I got answers and had a great ED doctor!

  • Tyler Aronstein, DO, was very attentive and took the time to talk to me about my tests and answered what questions he could.

  • Natalie Behnke, MD, took time to listen to my needs. She thoroughly described the plan, findings and diagnosis. The ER was extremely busy but she made my concerns feel valued. 10/10 would recommend Dr. Behnke.

  • Jason Bellows, MD, is a top-of-the-line doctor. His skills were professional, he had compassion for my feelings, listened to me, and his entire staff was excellent at their jobs. Everyone was so kind to me - the first time ever I was a patient in an ER - I was terrified, and the entire staff made me feel like I actually mattered.

  • Paul Benz, MD, was FANTASTIC!! He was so gentle and thorough and explained everything well. He did an amazing job of doing the stitches quickly but efficiently. I was so pleased with him.

  • Paul Benz, MD, was very good and attentive.

  • A grateful patient wrote to Scott Peek, President of Lutheran Medical Center, regarding his recent cardiac ablation experience. He noted the service was the best he had ever received and lauded several caregivers for their excellence, care and concern, including Andrew Buchholz, MD, Michael Burzynski, MD, and Bohuslav Finta, MD.

  • I liked Daniel Cheek, MD.

  • Lauren Karsh, MD, made me feel like my concerns were legitimate and that I wasn't an idiot.

  • The team that helped me was amazing. I don't think I could have had a better experience. They did such a good job of making me feel at ease. Wonderful nurses and doctors, including Kirk “Vance” Mitchell Jr., MD.

  • Special thanks to Sarah Namil, MD, the anesthetist who took care of me beyond and above her duty. She is very professional and excellent. She wheeled me to the operational room alone. Her medicine was excellent, and I recovered from surgery without any pain or headache. She is the best anesthetist I ever met. I will give her 5 stars! I would also like to give thanks to my surgeon, Garrick Greear, MD. He is great and treated my health issues with great care. He is very kind to me and made me feel like more than just a patient. I am very lucky to have him as my care provider.

  • A patient passed along feedback to Brooke Salazar, quality program manager, about his recent stay, noting everything went great and he was very pleased. He wanted to tell his entire care team, including anesthesiologist Gregory Schmitz, MD, and Franco Rae, MD, “thank you very much!”

  • The doctor, Michael Stackpool, MD, explained everything very well.

  • My doctors, including Adam D. Wiercinski, DO, as well as the nurses and all who attended to me, were all so very kind and caring.

  • The anesthesiologist, Brian Wickham, MD, was excellent! I was having a lot of pain in my right shoulder due to a COVID-19 vaccine I had several days before surgery. All options were considered including possibly postponing surgery. It was decided by myself, Dr. Wickham and my surgeon, Lauren Abrams, MD. I so appreciated Dr. Wickham going through all this with me.
